In a new four year partnership, Mitre will supply all SPL teams with their own unique version of the advanced Mitre Tensile Football, as well as replica and mini versions for fans, available exclusively from ACA Sports.

In the interview Kasper answers questions on why he wanted to work with Precision Training and how involved in the design process of the glove. Kasper also talks about his goalkeeping hero as a youngster and currently as a professional goalkeeper, he gives his view on current Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann and also if he thinks there is any added pressure being a keeper because of his fathers reputation as a world class keeper.

Pepe Reina is one of the worlds top goalkeepers and has made himself a fan favourite with the Liverpool fans. Malcolm our goalkeeping coach asks Reina a few questions about why he like Uhlsport goalkeeper gloves.

ACA: Hi Pepe, thank you for taking the time to talk with us. Being a goalkeeper, I’d love to get your take on some of the technologies in goalkeeper gloves and find out about your favourite glove and styles. That said, can you tell me who was your goalkeeping idol growing up?
Pepe: My idols were Zubizarreta and Holind growing up.

ACA: What was your first pair of goalie gloves?
Pepe: I Cant remember the brand name of the gloves, but it had “sticky” palms with rubber nodules. Classic!

ACA: What is your preferred cut, roll finger, flat, negative?
Pepe: I like a Flat palm cut glove.

ACA: What thickness of palm do you like to have on your gloves?
Pepe: I like a 4mm palm.

ACA: What do you look for in a glove bar comfort and grip?
Pepe: I enjoy looking at the various designs of gloves but really the comfort and grip are THE most important factors in a glove.

ACA: Do you feel any difference when wearing extended palm gloves?
Pepe: Yes, I just like the feel of extra contact on the ball that the extended palm gives.

Pepe: Yes, it is important to feel the same in a match as in training!

ACA: How was the experience of the World Cup and what were your celebrations like?

Pepe: Yes, we are a big club and, in time, we have the players and commitment to get back to the top. Its where we all want to be.

After a hard couple of weeks, the thaw appears to have started! And this is helping speed up all orders. The recent trouble on the in the west coast has obvoiusly caused problems with major motorways being shut two days in a row, but all in all services are returning to some state of normal.

We are receiving all of our deliveries again and suppliers have nearly caught up, and courier pickups have brought us up to date with all orders ready for dispatch.

As many of you will have noticed, the weather in parts of the UK has been record breaking over the last 10 or so days, and unfortuantely, ACA Sports are in an area which has been heavily affected by several feet of snowfall. As a result, both our processing of orders and the shipping once we dispatch them, has been affected.

Staff Shortages

Currently, we are working on orders with a 2 day back-log, mostly due to the fact we have been operating at as low as 25% staff levels for parts of the week, and have never managed to get a full compliment of staff into the office, apart from today! We have gained the use of a 4×4 and have shuttled staff into work from a 20 mile radius!

That said, we have found out that there will be no pick up from our couriers today as the Fife area is has seen snow fall since around 6am and there has been no let up, around another 15cm of snow. While this stops us getting orders out, we will have the chance to catch up and get more orders picked, ready for tomorrow when we hope Royal Mail and City Link services are again operating.

Royal Mail and Courier Updates

For orders that have been succesfully dispatched, we have been in contact with our couriers and Royal Mail and they too are having issues which are resulting in parcels staying in depots. Low staff and poor accessibility to back roads and streets is meaning much of the mail and delivery services throughout the snow affected parts of the UK has a large back log.

Order Updates

Please note, that we only update orders to dispatched once they have been picked up, they may well be ready to go but we are currently at the mercy of the delivery service and weather. If there have been other issues, not related to the delays caused by the weather, we will have notified you so if you have not recieved anything of this nature, your order should be on track for dispatch and delivery when posssible.

We hope this will help alleviate some worries about the whereabouts of orders, and while much of the delay is outwith our control, we do apologise for the inconvenience being caused.

1. What made you start making goalkeeper gloves?

From a very young age I scribbled drawings of goalkeeper gloves and team kits, those scribbles then made it onto goalkeeper gloves (via ink markers) that my parents spent a fortune on, so from a young age it was always my ambition to design.

2. When did you start up Kaliaaer?

The idea for Kaliaaer first came about in 2005 having worked for years in the design industry on behalf of several sport/fashion brands. My idea for the brand was not only to created top quality products using the best materials but fusing them with creative art, in 2007 that “idea” became reality.

3. How many staff do Kaliaaer employ?

Currently Kaliaaer have 40 members of staff, they are curently shared between our Kaliaaer Europe and Kaliaaer Asia team.

4. Can you remember the date for your first ever Kaliaaer glove being released?

Our first Kaliaaer glove was released in April 11th 2007 as a trial model in Japan, The model at that time was named “Kaliaaer – aerFlare”. In 2008 This model was released in Europe and re-named “TouchFeel”, The TouchFeel model went on to become a huge success due to its distinctive look. In 2009 We brought out the “TouchFeel aerFlare” model which was shown on SkySports SoccerAM due to the unique design/colour and the introduction of “TouchFeel Tips” inside the glove.

5. How many professional endorsees do you have on board and who are they?

Currently in the SPL Kaliaaer have Peter Enckelman, Craig Samson wearing Kaliaaer gloves. Kaliaaer’s focus has always been to invest in youth, currently we have 34 youth goalkeepers at clubs across the world ranging from AC Milan to River Plate to RC Lens and FC Barcelona wearing our Kaliaaer goalkeeper gloves.

6. Are you happy with the progress Kaliaaer has made?

We always look at ways to make things better. 2010 saw a few things that where unavoidable that halted our progress somewhat like the floods in Pakistan. These things happen and at times of crisis it’s more important to help. We worked with Unicef on helping people effected by the floods and in October we moved into our new factory so things are moving in a more positive direction.

7. What are your plans for Kaliaaer moving forward?

We have been working hard on making the Kaliaaer brand more established within the footballing market. In 2011/12 we will introduce more products to the market, sports & fashion textiles along with a selection of new glove designs using more varied materials, so keep a look out.

8. How many gloves do you have in the current range?

Currently the Kaliaaer range has 12 models.

9. What style of cut (palm) and what style of latex (palm) do you feel sells best for Kaliaaer?

The XgmPRO glove is by far the best glove we have produced in terms of design, materials, latex and sales. In 2010/11 we have developed 7 new XgmPRO gloves with several different cuts and latex’s to choose from but keeping the same XgmPRO identity and character.

10. Now that there are so many brands making goalkeeper gloves what makes Kaliaaer stand out?

At Kaliaaer we always try to be different and set the bar in terms of design and quality. Goalkeeper gloves need to be made for goalkeepers, not fueled just by our own creativity and fantasy. If you strip away the flamboyant colours and graphics of our gloves what you will see is a well thought out design that fuse function with Art.. Kaliaaer only use the best materials in our gloves, every part playing a key role in the gloves performance.

Kaliaaer designs have always been bold since there first glove release in Japan even with the “touch feel” glove to the stunning new Kaliaaer XgmPRO Eliminator glove and also the Kaliaaer Xgm PRO ACA glove. With Kaliaaer setting a high standerd with the construction and design of there goalkeeper gloves, it cant be long till we see the Kaliaaer brand worn by some of the worlds finest keepers.
