Lukasz Fabianski is widely regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in world football and has caught the eye this season with a few match winning performances for Arsenal in both domestic and European competitions.

Our resident goalkeeping coach Malcolm recently asked the Arsenal’s no1 and Polish international goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski a few questions about all things goalkeeping.

Who was your goalkeeping idol growing up?

Gianluca Pagliuca was my goalkeeping idol.

What was your first pair of goalie gloves?

My first pair of gloves were “Real”, they were a brand that no longer exists but was popular in Poland.

What is your preferred cut, roll finger, flat, negative?

My favourite is the Uhlsport Rollfinger

What thickness of palm do you like to have on your gloves?

I like a 4-4.5mm palm

What do you look for in a glove bar comfort and grip?

I look for a good Supportframe.

Do you feel any difference when wearing extended palm gloves?

No.

Do you train, warm up in the same style & cut of glove that you play in?

Yes.

What kind of football boot do you look for? With boots getting made lighter for out field players what kind of boot would you say was good for a goalkeeper?

I like my boots to be ”big” and to feel comfy and offer good support

With so many options of padded under shirts/shorts, do you wear them for training or games?

No

Uhlsport have a great history but what makes u happy to wear Uhlsport gloves?

I enjoy the feel within the gloves but more importantly enjoy working with the Uhlsport guys to develop products to improve my own performance.

Do you feel under pressure to be a success at Arsenal?

As an Arsenal player you always feel under pressure because of the history at the club and the desire to perform well. Its no different than any other club in top football.

There has been a fair few Polish goalkeepers playing at a high level in recent years, is there any special coaching set up back in Poland for young goalkeepers?

There are very strong coaches in Poland across the country so much of the young talent is picked up early which means that they are coached from a young age. This definitely helps young goalkeepers develop.

Lukasz Fabianski is one of many top goalkeepers from around the world to be sponsored by Uhlsport. At ACA Sports there is an extensive range of Uhlsport goalkeeper gloves and equipment ideal for all levels of goalkeeper.
