Robbie’s first days at the World CupPosted on Tue, Jun 15, 2010
I have finally made it!
Ever since I was a young lad growing up in Wrexham I have wanted to go to the World Cup and now I have achieved that goal.
Sadly it wasn’t to be in the red of Wales but I am so excited to be a part of it nonetheless.
I am out in South Africa commentating for BBC Radio 5 LIVE and loving being involved in the biggest tournament in the World.
Getting out here wasn’t something I enjoyed though – if you didn’t know I absolutely hate flying. It is made worse by all the internal flights we have to make during the tournament; I definitely won’t have any finger nails when I get back!
My debut was on Sunday night and what a game!!
Germany looked in awesome form against the Australians and whilst they wouldn’t want to peak too early they have definitely sent out a warning to all the other hopefuls in the tournament.
It was great to get so many calls on 6-0-6 after the game and I am looking forward to doing that all next season as well as play for Derby.
There is nothing like chatting to the fans straight after the games when emotions are running high and they have things to get off their chest – I love the passion of it all.
Back to the World Cup and Spain are my favourites but have a feeling that Holland will also pull something out of the bag this time around.
They are awesome up front and have a decent defensive record – I just hope they turn up.
As you can imagine I was truly gutted for England the other night against the USA – my co commentators just couldn’t believe it – check out the video here!
